New York Takes Action

Welcome to the New York State chapter of the Distraction-Free Schools Policy Project.
Who We Are: A group of parents, teachers, and community volunteers committed to restoring learning to the classroom by reducing school-based screentime.

What We Do:

Advocate for three statewide pieces of legislation to make NY schools the places of learning they should be

Lead community presentations about the harms of Ed Tech & Generative A.I. in schools​

Advocate for AI moratoriums for NY schools. DFS NY is a member of the Fairplay National 5-Year Generative A.I. Moratorium in Schools and the A.I. Moratorium for NYC Schools Coalition.

The Distraction-Free Schools Policy Project is a joint initiative between the Becca Schmill Foundation and Smartphone Free Childhood US.
